A Warm Welcome
Dear Colleagues,
Céad mile fáilte,
A Hundred Thousand Welcomes,
It is our great pleasure to invite you to the Annual Symposium of the Society for the Study of Inborn Errors of Metabolism (SSIEM), to be held in Dublin from 31st August to 3rd September 2027.
The SSIEM Symposium brings together scientists, clinicians, biochemists, dietitians and nurses as well as other allied health professionals and experts from a wide range of disciplines, all of whom share an interest in Inherited Metabolic Disorders (IMDs). It will showcase many individual areas, ranging from fundamental molecular mechanisms, modern biochemistry and pathophysiology to multidisciplinary clinical care, emerging new treatments, and the latest advances in innovative therapeutic approaches.
Our themes for the Symposium are ‘Complexity, Diversity and Inclusion’, with Metabolism and Inherited Metabolic Disorders at the centre. We embrace a truly multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary line of inquiry that fosters collaboration across diverse fields of expertise. An outstanding programme of plenary lectures, oral presentations and posters awaits you. These will be complemented by focused sessions and rich opportunities for networking and collaboration.
The SSIEM Symposium provides an exciting opportunity for both early-career and established researchers to present their work and to exchange ideas with the wider metabolic community, and you are warmly invited to contribute. We look forward to receiving your abstracts for oral and poster presentations. The Symposium will offer delegates from around the globe an opportunity to meet and be inspired by each other. Industry representatives and patient representatives will come together with scientists and clinical practitioners over this event. We also look forward to strengthening the connections between research, clinical care and the patient community.
Dublin is home to a vibrant academic, scientific and medical community, with a strong tradition of research and innovation. With its rich cultural heritage, past and present traditions in music, literature and the arts, walkable city centre, and its location by the sea, Dublin provides a wonderful setting for the Symposium.
Our venue for the Symposium is the Convention Centre Dublin, within easy walking distance of many of the city’s highlights. The CCD is a landmark building on Dublin’s skyline, with its glass-fronted atrium offering panoramic views of the city centre and overlooking the River Liffey. In the distance are the Dublin Mountains while the historic Dublin port is a stone’s throw away.
Access to Dublin is easy and convenient. Direct flights connect the city with destinations around the world, and sea connections link the Irish capital with continental Europe and the United Kingdom. Dublin is an international and cosmopolitan city, with people and communities whose roots extend far beyond Ireland. This diversity makes it a fitting place to bring together the global metabolic community and to celebrate the breadth of perspectives, experience and expertise within SSIEM.
We invite you to join the global metabolic community for the 2027 Symposium in Dublin. Come to our Conference, visit Dublin and Ireland, share in what we hope will be a stimulating and memorable meeting. We are very much looking forward to welcoming you.
Le gach dea-ghuí
With best wishes,

Ina Knerr
